It is densely packed with facts but is not comprehensive and does not provide much detail, and as such is best used as a starting point for research. Due to its mature terminology, this book is ideal for fifth grade and above. Dark and intriguing mystery

We should be grateful that Conan Doyle had a hard time establishing a medical practise as a young man: he filled the time writing and gave us the tales of crime and detection that have continued to fascinate readers for over a century.

Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson. Hard to think of a pair of fictional detectives who are better known or whose investigations and deductions are more intriguing. And “The Hound of the Baskervilles” is one of the best of the cases they solved, with not only a difficult mystery to unravel but a pervasive atmosphere of dark and possibly supernatural forces that left me quite frightened when I first read the novel in my teens.

Nice to have this well-formatted and excellently illustrated Kindle edition to again provide that tingle of fear that goes along with the subtle unraveling of events by the always brilliant Sherlock Holmes!

The Hound of the Baskervilles

“The Hound of the Baskervilles” is the best known of Doyle’s long stories. Like the others, it is entertaining and educational about the society of that era. Murders are caused by love and money (or lust and greed), to get it or to keep it. See your local newspapers.

Dr. James Mortimer visits Sherlock Holmes over his concern for the new heir of the Baskerville estate. Sir Charles Baskerville recently died under strange conditions, and Sir Henry may also be threatened. Dr. Watson will accompany Sir Henry as a guard (his revolver is handy). Watson learns more about this neighborhood. Holmes arrives but lacks proof for the solution of the crime. Sir Henry will visit his neighbors at night and walk on the moors in the hours of darkness. Holmes, Lestrade, and Watson follow to rescue Sir Henry from a fiendish attack. Justice isn’t cheated, the villain disappears as if the earth swallowed him!

It does not involve politics like the other long stories. Was it a critique of a hereditary aristocracy?

About the Author

Sherry Thomas' Brilliance not as Brilliant in this Storyline

"A Dance in Moonlight" is part of the Fitzhugh Trilogy. The books in this trilogy are:

Book #1 Beguiling the Beauty
Book #2 Ravishing the Heiress
Book #2.5 A Dance in Moonlight
Book #3 Tempting the Bride

This little Novella - "A Dance in Moonlight" just didn't do it for me. The reader may have already become acquainted with the heroine, Isabelle, in "Ravishing the Heiress" - she was in love with the impoverished Earl Fitzhugh (Fitz) but alas he had to marry an heiress so he and Isabelle never got together as they had planned. I suppose this book is the author's way of letting her readers know how Isabelle's life turned out. And, in fact, the story starts out with a bang.

*Minor Spoilers*
Isabelle is preparing to depart from her country manor - Doyle's Grange - where she has been living while attempting to get on with her life. She has loved Fitz since forever but all hopes of having him for her very own are now gone. However, as she is leaving Doyle's Grange, she runs into a man in front of her home and believing him to be Fitz, embraces him with excitement thinking he has come to her after all. In fact, it is not Fitz but the man is very nearly a double of Fitz.

The story is about their acquaintance and their eventual romance. The first few pages were interesting, then it seemed as though the story just became blah! Where was the Sherry Thomas who wrote "Not Quite a Husband" or even "Tempting the Bride" which was also a very interesting read?

Sherry Thomas is one gifted writer - my favorite book of hers is "Not Quite a Husband." I was utterly enthralled with the storyline and the writing. It is one of the most amazing love stories I have ever read. Her website and author's page is among the first I turn to when checking out current books. Because some of her books are so amazing, I will continue to buy her books in the hopes she will eventually turn out another winner.

I'd actually give this more like 2.5 stars because I thought it was well written. As improbable as the premise is, I enjoyed the banter between the two main characters very much at first and felt they connected well. As the story goes on, though, the tone became increasingly saccharine. I found the HEA rushed, over the top, and sickeningly sweet. I prefer the author's longer novels, though she can be a bit heavy-handed with the angst and her some of her male characters are exceptionally stupid.

I reminded me of the first novels of mrs Thomas, when she wrote I think more freely, more imaginative. The talent of a good author is in a brief novel to explore peoples's feelings. Why do they make authors write during deadlines?? It makes them not so genuine, don't you think?

Anyone can publish on Amazon - this is proof.

This really isn't a book at all. it's more like a pamphlet or a guide. It's rife with spelling and grammatical errors. The author doesn't care enough to proof-read (just read it out loud to yourself and you'll easy find all the errors.) I'd say there was a spelling or grammatical error every other page. Given that there are so few pages, it really shows how much the author cares. Probably one of the least helpful books I've had to interpret (because of all the spelling and grammatical errors, it was a bit challenging deciphering what the author was attempting to communicate.) The minimum price Amazon will sell a text is .99. That's what this should be selling for and, even then, it's too much for too little. Sorry. I wanted to like it. Be aware this is only a few pages in length. Caveat Emptor. Anyone can publish on Amazon - this is proof.

Graet book on ultrasound physics and instrumentation. Detailed explanation but not overly technical.

Excellent book. Goes into good detail of how ultrasound works. Has just the right amount of mathematics. The examples and analogies are excellent. Gives a great understanding of the physics underlying ultrasound. The book is a little more detailed than you actually need for the RDMS boards but it is better too know a little too much than too little. It is more detailed than Sid Edelman's book "Understanding Ultrasound Physics" but is a good book to read after Sid's book if you are really interested in the subject. For example, it gave the equation for maximizing sound transmission with a matching layer but did not show the calculus proving how the equation was derived. Good for sonographers and physicians but an engineer would need a more technical book. I highly recommend it for sonographers and physicians.

If you are studying for the SPI, this is the way to go! Used this mainly and breezed through the SPI my first try. The book has 3 different levels of the material so you can build up to the more difficult material instead of just plunging right into the hard stuff.
