About the Author
Onision is best known for the thousands of online videos he's performed in. He found inspiration in self-expression through making videos when he was only 15 but didn't pursue regular online video production till he had been enlisted in the Air Force for a few years. Onision was only inspired to begin writing books when he found there was an area of self-expression he had not yet tapped into. Onision puts pieces of his own life in every book he writes. This was an amazing rendition of the relationship between a human and a boat stuck on a beach. You really captured the beauty of the developing love this man harvested for an immobile object. No story will ever capture soul like this one.

This book follows the adventures of a lovable, conservative Christian redblooded meat eating all American hero in his fight to destroy terrorism and the liberal agenda. I especially loved how the author described the scene where he lovingly caressed the golden frame of his painting of George W. Bush while eating a 30 oz steak before it was time to protest Planned Parenthood. "If only we had one more term with you" he whispered to the painting as a tear fell upon his confederate flag he so lovingly cherished.

Manifesto

This book is more like a manifesto of the authors life than a journal kept by a fictional character. If you want a book to attempt to invalidate your existence every other sentence then by all means, buy this book. The author loves to claim he's philosophical and intelligent yet lacks the knowledge and ability to construct basic arguments. His "philosophy" is that of an angry edgy 17 year old. Yes, the main character is 17, but you have to remember the author is pushing 30 and has stated this book reflects his own philosophies.

If you're an edgy teenager looking for a reason to hate yourself more than you already do, then by all means, this book will help you. For anyone with an IQ in the positive spectrum, this book is not for you.

As far as the grammar compared to the last book, i'd say the author went from the grammar of a 7th grader to that of someone in high school. The grammar still feels juvenile and there are so many basic mistakes still. There are a ton of run on sentences, and at times there is no coherent plot structure.

Take the positive reviews as a sign. They consist of his fans or "lackeys" leaving reviews about how much they like him or things that have nothing to do with the book. He has instructed his fans to do so because he knows his book could be torn apart by anyone with even a fraction of literary knowledge.

A little more simple than I needed, but great for quick review and memorization

This book is very good. It was a bit simple for my needs, but the format was very helpful and allowed me to solidify the memorization of the expanded basics using the workbook, coloring and text.

The coloring is much simpler than some of the other books out there--which I liked. I prefer this format to color in over the more detailed ones where I felt all I did was search to find the right color for the right spot versus this book where I could color and concentrate on studying the part focused on.

Overall, I found this very useful and although it didn't have all the detail I needed, it did have plenty jammed into the pages. I found it to be a very useful tool.

Complicated

This seems to be the way that the liturgy of Churches in the Anglican Communion is headed these days.

There are so many options here that services are getting hard to follow for the ordinary worshipper in the pew.

Many C of E churches are compiling their own Orders of Service for Sunday and other services and I can see why.

My own preference is for a truly common Holy Communion service that would suit worshippers in all Anglican churches all over the world where English is the language of the liturgy but I know that is unrealistic these days since every national church has its own priorities, not to mention the "needs" of minority groups within each church.

My fear is that liturgy is dividing us in the Anglican Communion rather than uniting us.

Having said that, I feel that "Common Worship" is a useful resource for all Anglican churches in developing liturgical forms, even if they aren't "Common" any more.

There is an enormous amount of good material here, despite its complexity.

I regret that all Anglicans don't have a "Book of Common Prayer" that we can all own and share any more. For example, in Canada, I only know a handful of Anglicans who are aware of the existance of "Common Worship", let alone who own a copy.

About the Author

Kalervo N. Gulson is a lecturer in Educational Studies in the Faculty of Education, Charles Sturt University, Australia. He is on the editorial board of Race, Ethnicity and Education, and on the editorial advisory board of Critical Studies in Education (previously Melbourne Studies in Education). His research employs spatial theories to explore the interplay of urban change, education policy and identity/subjectivity. He has published in journals such as Discourse: Studies in the Cultural Politics of Education and Journal of Education Policy.

Colin Symes lectures in the School of Education at Macquarie University. He is a co-editor of the Asia-Pacific Journal of Teacher Education. His book Setting the Record Straight: A Material History of Classical Music, published by Wesleyan University Press, was a recipient in 2005 of a Deems Taylor Award from the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers. Recent articles of his have appeared in Teaching in Higher Education, British Journal of Music Education, Popular Music and Discourse: Studies in the Cultural Politics of Education.

About the Author

James K. Wight received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in civil engineering from Michigan State University in 1969 and 1970, respectively, and his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois in 1973. He has been a professor of structural engineering in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at the University of Michigan since 1973. He teaches undergraduate and graduate classes on analysis and design of reinforced concrete structures. He is well known for his work in earthquake-resistant design of concrete structures and spent a one-year sabbatical leave in Japan where he was involved in the construction and simulated earthquake testing of a full-scale reinforced concrete building. Professor Wight has been an active member of the American Concrete Institute (ACI) since 1973 and was named a Fellow of the Institute in 1984. He is currently the Senior Vice President of ACI and the immediate past Chair of the ACI Building Code Committee 318. He is also past Chair of the ACI Technical Activities Committee and Committee 352 on Joints and Connections in Concrete Structures. He has received several awards from the American Concrete Institute including the Delmar Bloem Distinguished Service Award (1991), the Joe Kelly Award (1999), the Boise Award (2002), the C.P. Siess Structural Research Award (2003 and 2009), and the Alfred Lindau Award (2008). Professor Wight has received numerous awards for his teaching and service at the University of Michigan including the ASCE Student Chapter Teacher of the Year Award, the College of Engineering Distinguished Service Award, the College of Engineering Teaching Excellence Award, the Chi Epsilon-Great Lakes District Excellence in Teaching Award, and the Rackham Distinguished Graduate Mentoring Award. He has received Distinguished Alumnus Awards from the Civil and Environmental Engineering Departments of the University of Illinois (2008) and Michigan State University (2009).

 

 

James G. MacGregor, University Professor of Civil Engineering at the University of Alberta, Canada, retired in 1993 after 33 years of teaching, research, and service, including three years as Chair of the Department of Civil Engineering. He has a B.Sc. from the University of Alberta and a M.S. and Ph.D. from the University of Illinois. In 1998 and 1999 he received a Doctor of Engineering (Hon) from Lakehead University, and in 1999 a Doctor of Science (Hon) from the University of Alberta. Dr. MacGregor is a Fellow of the Academy of Science of the Royal Society of Canada and a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering. A Past President and Honorary Member of the American Concrete Institute, Dr. MacGregor has been an active member of ACI since 1958. He has served on ACI technical committees including the ACI Building Code Committee and its subcommittees on flexure, shear, and stability and the ACI Technical Activities Committee. This involvement and his research has been recognized by honors jointly awarded to MacGregor, his colleagues, and students. These included the ACI Wason Medal for the Most Meritorious Paper (1972, and 1999), the ACI Raymond C. Reese Medal, and the ACI Structural Research Award (1972 and 1999). His work on the developing the Strut-and-Tie model for the ACI Code was recognized by the ACI Structural Research Award (2004). In addition, he has received several ASCE Awards, including the prestigious ASCE Norman Medal with three colleagues (1983). Dr. MacGregor chaired the Canadian Committee on Reinforced Concrete Design from 1977 through 1989, moving on to chair the Standing Committee on Structural Design for the National Building Code of Canada from 1990 through 1995. From 1973 to 1976 he was a member of the Council of the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists, and Geophysicists of Alberta. At the time of his retirement from the University of Alberta, Professor MacGregor was a principal in MKM Engineering Consultants. His last project with that firm was the derivation of site-specific load and resistance factors for an eight-mile long concrete bridge.

A Standard Established Text Book

Prof. J. K. Wight, who was the Chairman of the committee, which revised the current ACI 318 code has joined with professor J.G. MacGregor (who also is a past President of ACI and chaired several ACI & Canadian code committees) in writing the fifth edition of this standard, well established and popular text book. Their experience is distilled in this well written book, which covers both theoretical as well as practical aspects of reinforced concrete structures. The ACI code clauses are well explained with examples. Though the book a bit expensive, it contains 1112 pages of useful information which includes several figures, tables, photos, charts and several worked out examples. A few examples are also in SI units and equations are presented in SI units also throughout this book.

Hope in future editions the authors will include a CD containing some spreadsheets for the design of various elements. I would recommend this book to any one interested in reinforced concrete design.

Excellent textbook

This is probably the best textbook for reinforced concrete design in the market, especially for the two to three semester sequences of reinforced concrete courses that are taught at universities. It provides many in-depth examples and clearly explains all procedures in a very concise manner, making the textbook very readable. The authors also spent a lot of time discussing the MECHANICS of reinforced concrete, which is something that many other textbooks do not thoroughly cover. I would highly recommend this textbook to any student in Structural Engineering. It is also serves as an excellent reference for practicing structural engineers. You will not be disappointed when you read this textbook.
